The idea of Villagers began during the pandemic of 2020. At a time when we were all adjusting to new ways of working, both independently and collaboratively, an exciting door was opened. For years, studios had felt the need to source it’s talent as close as possible to it’s physical address, within eyeshot for peace of mind that they really were toiling away.

Remote working became the norm and despite the worries of concerned founders and creative directors, work flourished. Slack and Zoom working sessions became standard and collaboration took on new forms. We got to work in the comfort of our own homes, but also with the best creatives from all over the world, no longer restricted by location.

This is what we want to champion at Villagers. We don’t feel the need to force our teams back to the studio, full time or hybrid. We want to work with the best; no matter where they are in the world, wherever they are most comfortable. This allows us to assemble our own eclectic community of Village People (see image) bringing together a village of ideas bespoke for each project, to produce the most exciting creative.

Sam T Smith
Founder & Creative Director

After spending all of his life living and working in London, Sam packed it in for the rolling hills of Somerset to raise a young family and balance the high and lows of parenting alongside design.

Prior to founding Villagers, Sam worked at a wide variety of agencies, including GBH, DesignStudio and Mother Design and found the common thread he loved with them all was a wide variety of work, which he has endeavoured to continue and thrive on, earning him awards & recognition from organisations such as D&AD, Design Museum Designs Of The Year, It’s Nice That and Creative Review.

Sam’s main goal is to bring openness and joy to the design process, which we want to be apparent in all our work. Rebranding from the client’s point of view is a terrifying and exhilarating process, so we strive to make it as easy and fun as possible.
